In a major step towards achieving net-zero emissions, the PSA Venice -Vecon container terminal has announced the implementation of a cutting-edge sustainability strategy with the adoption of HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and the use of 100% renewable energy: this change not only reduces environmental impact but also sets a new standard for the port industry.
Venice-Chioggia, 21 February 2025 – A particularly lively last quarter enabled the port of Venice to end the year with a 3.5% increase in the number of tonnes handled, compared to the previous year (from 23,271,129 to 24,104,354). The port of Chioggia also did well, with 813,415 tonnes, namely an 8.8% increase in the volume of goods handled, mainly driven by general cargo (+42.7%) and in particular by the steel industry.
180 technicians, operators, and entrepreneurs from the Venetian port community participated in a two-day training on cybersecurity and digital twin technology, organized by the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority, with the support of the Association of Engineers of Venice. The event took place at the Venezia Heritage Tower in Porto Marghera.
Up until May 2026, the port of Chioggia will host a construction site exceeding 45,000 sq. m. operated by the company Cimolai Technology for the set up two over 100-metre-tall harbour gantry cranes (800 tonne GOLIATH class crane). Once completed, the cranes will be shipped from Chioggia using SPMTs (self-propelled modular transporters) and sent to Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard.
The story of the sustainable future of the Veneto Region's ports told through the projects involving the local territory and the challenges facing the entire community, without disregarding the international scenario, the transport sector and their historical and cultural context: this is the common thread guiding the meeting jointly organised by the Northern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority and cultural institution Ateneo Veneto, to be held tomorrow afternoon in the latter’s Aula Magna.
Venice, 06 December - Established by the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority with the support of the Municipalities of Venice and Chioggia, the Harbour Master's Office and the Venice Port Community, Port Educational is an educational project that resorts to simple and playful storytelling techniques to talk of the centuries-old relationship between the cities of Venice and Chioggia and their port, and has gained increasing success amongst the local area's primary schools.
Located at the top of the Adriatic Sea, the Veneto Port System – which includes the ports of Venice and Chioggia – is the closest access to Europe’s main manufacturing centres for goods coming from the south and a key resource for the area: on a total surface of 2,500 hectares, over 1,200 companies operate to serve supply and export chains of industries based in Northern Italy and Central Europe.
