  7. Gender equality
Gender equality represents one of the fundamental principles of the European Union, aiming to build a Europe that guarantees freedom and personal fulfillment.

Our company policies are aimed at eliminating gender inequalities.

Gender equality is one of the fundamental principles of the European Union, enshrined in both the “Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union” and the “Charter of Fundamental Rights of the Union.” It is also supported by the “Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025,” which aims to create a Europe that ensures freedom and personal fulfillment through actions against violence against women and gender stereotypes, work-life balance, equal pay, improving the presence of women in top positions, and promoting diversity in the workplace.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has drawn the attention of the Presidents of the Port System Authorities to the need to implement company policies aimed at reducing and ultimately eliminating gender inequalities in all their forms.

Starting from the Three-Year Operational Plan 2022-2024, the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority has initiated this process by integrating sustainability, as defined by the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, into its strategies based on five guidelines related to specific sustainable development goals, including Gender Equality (SDG No. 5).

The Authority is committed to pursuing the goals of Agenda 2030, particularly Goal No. 5 on Gender Equality. Since 2021, it has been participating in the Gender Equality Working Group promoted by Assoporti, which resulted in a joint document sensitizing all Italian Port System Authorities. In 2022, the Authority incorporated these guidelines into the Integrated Activity and Organization Plan (PIAO), as per Resolution No. 10 of the Management Committee on June 27, 2022. This plan serves as a tool for integrated planning of operational objectives and performance, risk management measures, organizational and professional health, and indicators for the creation of public value. It integrates Gender Equality among its objectives and actions.

This document is part of the “Women in Transport – the challenge for Italian Ports” project promoted by Assoporti to reaffirm its commitment to combating gender inequalities, particularly in the transportation and logistics sector. The aim of this pact is to improve the working conditions for women, valorize their contributions, and define company policies involving all levels of the organization to raise awareness, educate, and communicate with all employees to ensure equal treatment, equal representation, and, more broadly, the promotion of work environments that foster full collaboration to overcome inequalities.

The North Adriatic Sea Port Authority has also developed the first edition of the Gender Equality Plan, a programmatic document aimed at guiding strategies and policies in the next three years to reduce the gender gap in line with the European Union’s Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025.

In the short term, the objectives set by the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority on this issue include establishing the Single Guarantor Committee for Equal Opportunities and promoting the well-being of workers and combating discrimination (CUG), in accordance with Article 57 of Legislative Decree No. 165 of March 30, 2001, as amended, and the Directives of March 4, 2011, and June 26, 2019, from the Minister for Public Administration, Innovation, and Equal Opportunities. Additionally, there is an ongoing effort to raise awareness through dedicated communication events. In this regard, on October 4, 2023, marking the second anniversary of the Italian Port Authorities’ signing of the “Pact for Gender Equality,” the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority organized the event “Inclusion and Social Equity: Reflections and Experiences in Comparisonas part of communication initiatives targeting the Port Community and employees.
