The Frontal Inspection Post of Venice

The Port Inspection Center was created by the Port Authority of Venice and was inaugurated in 2013. It is a modern structure in line with the most restrictive standards imposed by the European Union capable of guaranteeing the maintenance and development, within the port, imports of animal products and feed.

The Inspection Center is located inside the Vecon SpA container terminal in the commercial port of Marghera. The structure is equipped with a reception for customs agents, offices, covered unloading areas that can be isolated from the external environment, inspection rooms and rooms for the temporary storage of food, feed and by-products, both at ambient and controlled temperatures.

The airport inspection post is located at the cargo terminal of Venice Marco Polo airport. The airport PIF is authorized to control packaged, refrigerated, frozen and room temperature food products. He is also authorized to carry out health checks on feed and by-products of animal origin that can be stored at room or refrigerated temperatures.

It is however possible to import, in derogation of the authorizations held by the airport PIF, frozen animal semen and embryos, by-products or blood products of animal origin, provided that the transport of such consignments takes place at room temperature in sealed packages or containers, with self-regulation of the internal temperature.

The airport as well as the port are not authorized to carry out health checks on commercial imports of live animals.

Imports of live animals from third countries are therefore not permitted unless they have already made a stopover in an authorized EU port or airport and have been examined with a favorable outcome in an authorized PIF.

The port of Chioggia does not have any structure authorized to control animals and derived products. Pursuant to Legislative Decree number 223 of 17 June 2003, the port of Chioggia, already authorized to carry out phytosanitary controls pursuant to the Decree of the Ministry of Agricultural Policies 31 January 1996, has been authorized to issue veterinary clearance for feed and other products intended for animal feed.

The Special Company for the port of Chioggia has made available to the PIF of Venice a structure equipped with an office, a changing room equipped with services and an examination room for the preparation of official samples.
