Padua, Oct. 9, 2024 – Statement by the President of the North Adriatic Sea Port System Authority Fulvio Lino Di Blasio this morning in Padua at the States General of Logistics for the Northeast during the round table “Strategies to develop and enhance the management of major logistics nodes and corridors”.
“We are here, alongside the Region, to add our contribution to the development of the Veneto ports. Two years ago, right here in Padua, we signed the first Agreement amongst the north-eastern logistics nodes and since then we have been working synergically, acting in international marketplaces as a team and developing European projects together. This, for example, was the approach we adopted with the airport operator and with other North Adriatic ports. There is a value in presenting ourselves in the market compactly to ensure a critical mass to support common positions, but also to share the means to deal with the most difficult challenges, such as the energy transition and the constant evolution of environmental policies. From this standpoint, we have been able to make progress in reference to planning in the energy field – the focus on hydrogen and the electrification of the docks – and more generally to environmental sustainability. This is a major achievement, especially for our ports, if we consider the difficult environmental challenges we face in the Lagoon on a daily basis, as well as the major limitations imposed on nautical accessibility. I would nevertheless like to recall that we are also the most important multi-purpose and multi-modal port system in the country: the services we offer cater for all types of goods and/or passengers and add river links to the sea/road/rail/road connections. Our ports are acknowledged as being hubs with the qualities needed to enhance the full production chain in the Northeast, including steel or agri-businesses.
As to infrastructure, we are convinced that their design must bring added value to the local territory as well as to the port, by ensuring smooth and efficient traffic flows: for this purpose, I would like to mention, amongst the works and interventions that we are pursuing, the new Montesyndial container terminal and intermodal platform, which will be equipped with a double rail track and will link this infrastructure to the national rail network.
Today we reaffirm our commitment to put up a united front in support of an integrated Veneto logistics system. We restate our commitment to the Agreement and welcome new partners: these premises will assure the development, in 2025, of synergies for effective promotion in foreign markets alongside the Region.”
