Statement by Fulvio Lino Di Blasio, President of the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority:
“We are very glad to announce the encouraging results of the first navigation test at the Malamocco inlet. This is a milestone in our efforts to ensure nautical accessibility to the port as a prerequisite for enhanced safety, occupation and competitiveness of the entire Veneto port system, which includes the ports of Venice and Chioggia. We’ve been working on the ‘regulated port’ project for some time now, and this new, important achievement is part of a broader action plan whose goal is to synchronize the activation of the Mose flood barriers with port operations while safeguarding and promoting the competitiveness of a port which hosts outstanding national and international business operators. To maintain competitiveness and make sensible use of the considerable amount of public funds allocated to the port, we need measures and procedures that minimize the impact of Mose activation on port operations and guarantee the access of ships to our quays without extra costs for the operators who call at our ports”.
