Statement by President Di Blasio during the De Portibus event

La Spezia, 10 May 2024 – “Today, the scenario that Port System Authorities operate in is increasingly difficult to anticipate and interpret, and exposed to frequent geopolitical and climate shocks. As a result, we are asked to operate adaptively and take on new roles that go beyond the simple provision of services to operators: management skills and vertical abilities are needed to support the definition and implementation of an energy and environmental planning strategy, and the infrastructural and digital transformation of the country and Europe.”.
These were the words spoken by the Chairman of the Northern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority Fulvio Lino Di Blasio at the De Portibus festival that is currently underway in La Spezia, as part of the technical summit Ports of the world compared. The world is changing, are ports changing? New major works and new routes.
“As port system of the Veneto,’ Di Blasio concludes, ‘we work daily to be in line with this trend and to better manage the challenges of the Northern Adriatic. Amongst the numerous projects in place, a major focus has been put on intermodal railways and nautical accessibility. Our design choices are based on an analytical and scientific approach that enables us to assess scenarios and innovative solutions to ensure a balance between port requirements and the needs of our delicate lagoon environment. This is the scope of the technical and economic feasibility projects for the maintenance dredging of the Vittorio Emanuele III and Malamocco Marghera canals, and the creation of a new site where the port sediment will be deposited. Among the projects within this new transformative and regenerative strategy for our port, to rekindle the competitiveness of the Veneto Region’s system, there is the plan for the construction of the future container terminal – with a capacity of 1 million TEUs – that will be built in the Montesyndial area in Porto Marghera and for which work has recently begun. However, none of this makes sense unless we assess the market and our ability to attract private investors: I am thinking of Venice and Rovigo’s Simplified Logistics Zone, for which the tax credit facilities for this year were recently refinanced thanks to the strenuous work performed by the Veneto Region that led the long and complex process required to achieve this important goal.”.
