38th Venicemarathon: the ports of Venice and Chioggia run together for the territory

The 38th edition of the Venicemarathon, scheduled for Sunday 27 October, will see 17,500 athletes cross the Venetian hinterland, starting from the Riviera del Brenta and arriving in the historic centre of Venice: once again the last kilometres of the race will take participants across the city’s waterfront and port areas of Santa Marta and San Basilio.

The first to pass these areas will be those registered for the 10km, and among them the members of the port community team running for the fifth edition of the Trofeo Porti del Veneto: more than 70 runners who are close-knit and committed to their territory, where they live and work.

During the press conference, the president of the Venice Port Community Davide Calderan brought the strong message of the port community to the race: ‘On Sunday we will run for the City as a port community, a united and cohesive community that works for the wellbeing of the territory and to help strengthen the relation between the City and its port. Venicemarathon has for years offered the opportunity to express this relation, both with the thousands of runners who cross the city’s waterfront areas and by populating the Trofeo Porti del Veneto, an expression of the values of solidarity and commitment towards a common goal in which we believe and for which we work every day. This year, as a port community, we have managed to achieve an important goal: to form a team of almost 100 runners made up of representatives of port terminals, institutions, technical-nautical services, police forces, agents and shippers, etc., who will run for our Trophy: a charity initiative, now in its fifth year, which allows the winners to select a territorial association committed to social welfare to which the Port Authority will donate a contribution. A solidarity challenge that I am sure we will be able to win together’.
