Seven new benches have been positioned in front of the premises of the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority (NASPA) in Venice Santa Marta. A concrete action as a signal of the Authority’s desire to contribute to the improvement of the territory and the city. The purchase was possible thanks to the funds of the European project Bauhaus of the Seas Sails (HORIZON Europe Programme) of which NASPA is a partner together with other institutions, including the Municipality of Venice, Ca’ Foscari University and IUAV University. The project, which began in January 2023 and will end on 31 December 2025, aims to propose and design future ways of living in coastal areas that regenerate these ecosystems recognized as crucial for the fight against climate change. One of the main expected results of the project is, in fact, the creation of sustainable coastal communities that integrate design principles inspired by nature and regenerative practices, through pilot projects and interdisciplinary prototypes, which aim to achieve a transformation in coastal architecture and urban planning, capable of strengthening the social fabric and sense of identity within these communities. For this reason, the Venetian partners have shared a pilot project that involves the area of Santa Marta and San Basilio and which implement three “drops”, including the development of the Future Tidal Architectures, within which the Authority, entering the process of redevelopment of the waterfront, has an active role and is aimed at redefining the connection and relationship between the inhabitants of Venice and the Lagoon and its tides, both from a spatial and social and cultural point of view. Through the purchase of the benches that the project has allowed, the intent is to recover and redefine the connection with the sea with an urban planning perspective, aimed at redesigning the public space of Santa Marta area, in a functional and innovative way, also with reversible and small-scale urban furnishing interventions.
